Phones are found just about everywhere |
These days you can do just about anything that you could do on a laptop or desktop on your mobile device. It goes without saying that you could accomplish this from anywhere that you have a signal. Pretty powerful stuff- signs we are living in the twenty first century. So why is it that this ubiquitous technology is largely absent from our classroom environments?
Knowledge Bases

| Signs like this are common |
Using mobile devices in the classroom environment allows students to exercise more control over their learning, the teacher is not the "be all, end all" holder of knowledge anymore. This can be challenging to embrace, but in today's world it is a reality we all face. Unfortunately, students today exist within an old fashioned system that does not encourage this freedom. Additionally student's mobile devices can become powerful tools to showcase their learning through blogging, image creation and capture as well as for formative and summative assessments.
Ubiquitous

Students see mobile technology being used all around them on a daily basis. When they come to school they see an environment devoid of hand held technology. Why is it that there are apps that make everything easier (and some that are just entertaining) yet there is such reservation about letting this technology into our classrooms? I see the desire from students to use their devices in class and have experienced first hand the powerful student centered work that is produced when this freedom is granted. I have been very fortunate that my administrators have allowed me to explore this avenue for learning with my students and they have risen to the challenge. Proof to me that if we give students freedoms, they will use them responsibly.
