When students create their own artifacts in class, they are demonstrating their understandings of topics. Many higher order thinking skills are used as opposed to rote memorization. Teachers can be creative in their use of activities which encourage individuality rather than getting each student to produce an identical product.

This creators ethos is central in an asynchronous, student focused classroom in which each student can explore and learn at their own pace. When ownership of activities develops, more connections can be made and the outcome is much more relevant to the student's life.
