Quality Summarization

How can we tell when a student understands something? Explaining in one's own words is a terrific way to not only showcase, but to truly demonstrate a high level of understanding of a topic.

Blog To Summary

Lately in our class we've been using an activity we can "you're it". The way it works is each day a student summarizes a concept that they really get, writing a short post to our blog. Included in each post is a media artifact that they have created and uploaded or inserted. Once they complete the post, they tag another student who then completes the next day's post. We have been finding this activity to be a great way to keep the interest in our blog and get students "living" on the space. About half of the posts so far have been composed and submitted outside of school hours on mobile devices.  Check out recent posts tagged "you're it" to see what its all about!
