"where is the video of the teary eyed mother telling the world how your school changed her daughter's life? -Scott Mcleod
How can I capture the satisfied parent or the thrilled student and then share that with a broader audience? I'm fortunate that in my school district there is a true effort to capture these moments and share them with the greater community. Recently the Superintendent of schools joined my class for over an hour. The resulting video "Inside The Classroom" can be seen here. I was thrilled to see how involved and with it the students were in the video.
One of my initial projects has been to begin creating video materials that explain my philosophies and ideas about education. My playlist on youtube is now where I put materials that help to illustrate who I am as an educator.
I'm just beginning this project. In the future I am planning on having a video of student interviews where they speak briefly about what my class is like and how to be successful. I would also love to enlist parents and guardians to join me for short informative interviews where they explain to other parents and guardians about my class and how it operates.
With this in mind, we can all be more successful in our educational endeavors. Long gone are the days when teachers could just rely on the fact that students were essentially a captive audience. We must showcase our strengths and success to survive.
