| My magic band, tested recently. |
spent in the classroom completing mundane and clerical tasks so that teachers and students can focus on what they are there for-learning.
Recently I had the opportunity to test the new "magic band" while on vacation at Disney World. It served multiple purposes as your room key, park passes and can even be connected to your credit card. Still in the testing phase but soon I imagine you'd see these bands on every park visitor because of the ease of use and reduction in time spent at gates and cashiers. During my trip I thought that this band idea has an application in schools. For example, students could be recognized by their band as they enter the room automatically checking them in on the attendance roster. If they were late, the time could be tagged for record keeping. In the cafeteria, students wouldn't need to carry cash or school card, they could just bump their band to pay for their lunch. This is a concept and would take a lot of focus on detail to make work, but it begs the question:
"How can we reduce the amount of time spent in classrooms today on mundane tasks not related to student learning?"How do you reduce time spent on clerical tasks in your classroom (with or without technology)? Consider sharing your strategies, that way we'll be able to bring the focus of our classrooms back where it belongs- on student learning.
